Abnormally normal interests

So,let me begin by elaborating or...maybe not, about the abnormally normal going ons of my life. The reason i haven't been blogging n have been keeping all u make believe readers at the edge of ur seat is....ya,well,u don't need 2 noe the reason. Have been reading "crime and punishment" by Fyodor dostovsky. Yes,another one of my feeble attempts to increase my limited intellectual capacity. Sadly, its not going very well. Oh,well....life's little ironies. Sigh! In another attempt,I have been reading book 1 of "the odyssey" by Homer. Since there are various translations stocked in different bookstores,I've read 4 different translations of it. So....yeah,so far it has done nothing 2 make me a little more cultured. Instead,I think i'm still a bit of a floozy, albeit not a pretty one. God,i sound so self-depriciating. Yet,strangely obnoxious......Read "Life of Pi" by Yann martel. He has officially became one of my favourite contemporary writers, after Murakami of course. No one describes the inner sanctums of Tokyo better than him while bending the metaphysical as well. Anyway, getting derailed here. back to martel. All u critics out there might say he's overrated n blah, blah, blah. I still think he writes wif a mixture of dazzle n depth. If you have read "The facts behind the Helsinki Roccamatios" by him,u will find a gem of a book in this collection of 4 short stories that are at times cynical, reminiscent n still manages to tug a string or 2 of ur heartstrings. Here i go again, sounding more n more lyk a book review. On to wat i'm currently listening to, mainly The Strokes,Julian Casablancas,Beirut,The Strange Boys,Funeral Party,Dirty Projectors,Death cab for cutie,The Temper Trap,Hockey,The Virgins,n loads more. Mostly indie bands. Speaking about the word "indie",its casually thrown around now. If an artiste/a band doesn't really fit the convetional mould of a top 40 hit-maker,its naturally classified as "indie". Ok,now i've said my piece about that,I'm gonna eleborate a LITTLE about The Strokes, Julian casablancas (lead singer 4 The Strokes) n beirut. First of all,The Strokes are awesome. I absolutely love their sound! Yes,i'm making myself out to be all fangirl but you have to listen to the strokes to noe wat i mean. Although they sound lyk after a night of drunken debauchery n den dey juz came in 2 make music, dats wat makes dem distinct n oh so inapproiately awesome. Julian casablancas has a solo career outside the strokes. Well, dey all do actually. Anyway, his music is energetic wif complicated chords n a pretty melody. He can fuse pop, country, rock in one song n dats wat i call talent. However,he should stay away from country. for example, "Ludlow St" isn't as strong as the other tracks on his debut solo album, oscar wilde inspired "Phrazes for the young". "Out of the blue" is easily one of the standout tracks from the album. The lyrics r a little crpytic but quite funny in a melancholic way. And that voice his gritty croon is distinguishable n just.....i dunno, awesome?. Beirut=zach cordon, the talented brainchild of the band. Its a fusion of balkan, eastern european music n a twinge of american pop/rock. the lyrics r nothing 2 shout about but it ties the songs in nicely. When you listen,it takes u to a different era,an alternate reality. Seriously, just for the sake of the music, listen to Beirut. His voice is low and melancholic n it suits d style of his songs. Well,sigh....dats the end of my review like post. ciao,my non existent readers
